The Writing on the Wall

It was what should have been nap-time in our house.  I heard E’s little voice drift down the stairs….

“MOMMMMMMY!!!!”

OK, it kind of thundered down the stairs.

I went to tell her to lay back down, that she had to sleep, but I was in  for a surprise.  My darling little E had contraband.  She had smuggled a green crayon into her bed.  I guess she had it in her diaper, I don’t know, all I know is that her walls were COVERED in green crayon.

Somehow, I kept my calm.  I looked at her and said “E did you write on your wall?”

She looked at me, tapped her finger on her chin and told me, “Umm, I don’t think so.”

Aren’t we just like this?  I thought immediately of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden.  I always thought it was funny how God came and asked Adam and Eve “Who told you that you were naked?  Have you eaten from the tree?”  God knew they ate from the tree the same way I knew E had written on that wall.

So why ask?  I never understood until yesterday.

I think God asks because He knows that acceptance of our sin in the first step in repenting from our sin.  We have to acknowledge we’re sinners, repent, and lastly ACCEPT forgiveness.

I laid E back down in her crib, and was just flooded with the fact that there were some things I had been carrying around that I really just needed to repent about.  I was hiding in the garden from the God who created me.

I really just needed to read the writing on the wall.

Maybe you too need to just lay some things down, or let some things go.  Its not like God doesn’t know about them.  Its like the crayon in your diaper.  Just let it go, and accept the grace that is freely given by a loving Father in Heaven.

  2. Hi Amber,

Thanks so much for linking up with me at Good Morning Girls. I loved reading your post today! So true and I loved how you tied it Adam and Eve and how they reacted to God when He confronted them. I've had similar situations with my girls too!!!
