Tot School-Leaves

TotSchool2So, its finally fall!   Here are some of the things we did this week, but you can see more pics over at A Mommy Talks by Madonna.   Be sure and check out 2 Teaching Mommies to download the lesson plans and all of the printables.

Language Arts:
We focused on the letter L this week.  On our first day of tot school, and in our house, the only day of tot school this week, we made this L is for Leaves letter.  We made the L like a trunk and glued on some leaves I cut out of construction paper.

We also read books this week, and here are some of our favorites!

We had some GRAND plans for math this week.  Alas, life happened and we didn’t get a lot done.  We were planning on completing these two wonderful activities, but it just didn’t happen.

Leaf Shadows to work on shapes:

And Leaf Patterns:

I am going to keep them on hand because I am pretty sure we’ll do them later this fall.

Science and Social Studies:
We visited the science museum this past week, and they happened to have a table to make leaf rubbings!   It worked great for our unit, so we took some time a made a couple.

100_1403 If you do leaf rubbing I recommend that you tape the leaves to the table.  It gets difficult for little ones to hold the paper and leaves and the crayons.  Tape will help. :)

Some Extra Stuff:
One evening this week it finally turned cool.  The sky went slate blue, and E and I went out and enjoyed the change of weather.  We looked for leaves, but not many have fallen here yet.  All the same it was a good evening.
100_1354 100_1351  We also made sugar cookies one evening for our family night.  We cut them into the shapes of leaves and pumpkins and watched a Blue’s Clues episode about fall.   She liked eating cookies and chilling with her daddy!

That was our week.  Be sure and check out 2 Teaching Mommies, where all of the lesson plans we use are.  You can download them for FREE, along with printables.

Most importantly, be sure and check out 1+1+1=1 where you can see what others did this week in tot school.

  1. We had that kind of week too. Grand plans, few results. LOL Oh well, there's always next week.

  2. Great tip to tape the leaves down when you rub them. :)

  3. Hey Amber...I got that animal/letter barn from a link on Here's the direct link:

I'll have to remember the leaf rubbing activity. Don't you just love it when things fall into place without you even planning them? :)
